Ladies and Gentlemen:

It's my great honor to be here at this special occasion. Now that I have to introduce my presentation, I will happily admit that I am as nerves as a cat on a hot roof. This is picard from CAMS and in the next few minutes, I am going to talk about weather modification or something like that.

Basically, I’ve divided my presentation into three parts. In the first part, I’ll talk about some disastrous weather. Then, in the second part, I’ll discuss what is weather modification and it’s classifications. In the finally part, I’ll focus on Catalytic instruments. 

OK, let’s start by looking at the first part.

Here is the hail damage. As is known to us all, hail is one of the most dangerous disastrous weather in the world. It is very common in some parts of our China.According to a survey, 25 million mu of farmland per year were damaged by hail from 1990 to 2000. Here is the volume of some hail particals. And this picture is about the broken watermelons caused by the hail. What a pity! In this picture, these fruit trees are just damaged by the hail. These are not because of the protection of the hail net. Of course, there are also some problems about the hail net.

These pictures are about drought. According to the Ministry of Agriculture, by the end of 2.2 this year, 43% of winter wheat suffers from drought.

Because of the fog, the flight has been cancelled. And the traffic accidents became more and more.

This lead us to the 2 part of my presentation. Weather modification is the effort of man to change naturally occurring weather, for the benefit of someone. The best-known kind of weather modification is cloud seeding, with the goal of producing rain or snow, suppressing hail (which can ruin crops), or weakening hurricanes and unconsciously weather modification.

This brings us to the final part of my topics. The usual way to seed cloud is to throw special catalyst, or glaciogenic materials ,such as dry ice, AgI, liquid nitrogen, NaCl to the cloud. They can affect the physics and the chemical mechanism of the cloud so as to modificate it . let me introduce several catalytic instruments used in weather modification.
