Ms. Hou is a very old woman who is now in her 60th. She was born in 1948, in Zigong, Sichuan Province. For her father was a businessman at that time, she was born in a bourgeoisie family. This had bad effect on her life. When she was very young, she lived a rich life though lonely. However, things changed greatly when the revolution broke out after the foundation of our country, which aimed at overthrowing the bourgeoisie class. Since then, she became an ordinary girl, and was no longer a “proud princess”. Besides, people around showed no kindness to her. She turned into an ordinary one while she could not enjoy the same fair treatment as the other children. She went to school when she was 6. She had to study hard to gain others’ respect and praise, instead of disdain. With her hardwork and perseverance, she became an outstanding student in her school. In 1966, she went to the best senior high school, called Shuguang Middle School in her city. However, the Cultural Revolution (1966¬1976) broke out. Students, including Ms. Hou left their schools and went to the coutryside or remote places to “train themselves”. Becoming a university student had always been her dream. However, the national college entrance examinations had been cancelled. During the following nail-biting 10 years, she kept on leaning by herself, she had never given up her dream in heart. After the ending of this revolution, she took the exams and was adopted to Sichuan Normal University. She was majoring in history. And after 4 years` hard work, she successfully graduated from the university.

During her 10 years in the countryside, she fell in love with a young man who was in the same situation as her. They got married in 1974. Next year, she gave birth to a baby. After graduating, concerning about the backward of her hometown, she made up her mind to go back to her hometown. She wanted to use all the power and knowledge of her to help the development of the city. She became a history teacher in a middle school in Zigong. For her hardwork and excellent achievement, she had been promoted for several times. In 1986, she became one of the teachers in the senior high school where she once studied in. The following year, she joined the Chinese Democratic League. She devoted her life into education career. Her sedulity and outstanding results made her gain more and more respect from others. In 1992, her son was adopted to a famous university in Shanghai. After he graduated, he found a decent job there, then he asked these two old couple to live with him, but they prefered to the place where they were accustomed to. In 2002, Ms. Hou became one of the representatives of the Natinal People’s Congress. It was extremely difficult for a humble middle school teacher to make it, because there were only 3 representatives in her city. The other two were the mayor and vice-mayor. Now she is in her 6oth, and has reached the age to retire. It is for her strong love for teaching and her excellent teaching technology that she couldn’t put the work down. She remains to be a teacher. She is respected by almost all the people around. Though she has made a great number of achievements, she is always modest and never shows herself off. She thinks that they are all given by the people, what she need to do is devoting all herself to service and gratitude the people.

In her opinion, the world is full of chances and challenges, and we may fall behind at any time. But she encouraged us not to be afraid, on the contrary, we should learn to face the challenges and try our best to defeat the opponents. Everyone ought to seize the chance to develop him/herself. What's more, she does what she says. She is so old now, and faces the challenge of the young teachers who graduate from some famous universities. Though being such old, she keeps on studying. Besides, she also thinks that the good and bad both exist in the world. However, the power of good is always stronger than the bad. People should learn to find the good, rather than complain the bad. Because when you spend your time in complaining, you may often miss the good.

She considers her life to be colourful, no matter in the past, at present or in the future. She often sighs that how time flies, however, without sorrow. Her early period of past was full of difficulties and tears. Lately, she became more and more successful. But she treasures the first one much more. She thinks that the difficulties make her more brave, tough and intelligent. One who grows up in adverisity often becomes more outstanding in the late days, because he/she has suffered more misery, and experienced more, besides, he/she will know more about cherishing the life. They gave her more powerful strength to face the challenges and her misfortune. As for the opinion of the future, she hasn’t thought about it carefully so far. But she is sure that what she needs to do is to try her best to do everything well. Because the day in the future for her is not long now, she thinks that she should cherish every second to enjoy the warm sunshine, to enjoy the colourful life.
