Volunteer

433 views. 2009-7-3 20:51 |

The most unforgettable experience of my life was that I was a volunteer for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games. I have learned a lot of things during that time.

I was working in the spectator service department at the badminton venue. I got up very early in the morning and went to bed late every day. Before the game started, I helped the spectators find their seats as soon as possible. During the match, I paid attention to the spectators and reminded them to turn their flash off when taking photos. My work was not as easy as people think. I usually stand many hours each day. I felt my back ached, my waist ached and my legs ached, but I have to stand still and keep smile all the time. Maybe many people thought that volunteers can watch the matches without paying for it. In fact, we had to pay attention to the spectators instead of the match, and we had a lot of work to do. Although my work was very hard, I enjoyed it very much. The work offered me a good opportunity to contact with the society and applied what I had learned at school. I can meet the spectators from all over the world. It enriches my social experience, meanwhile broaden my horizon. I improved my communication skills and practiced my oral English. What’s more, we may meet all kinds of problems, such as some spectators lost their bag, suffered heatstroke or got lost in the venue. I would try my best to overcome the difficulties and help them solve their problems. I felt very happy when I helped other people. It improved my dedication spirit and responsibility. Besides, I made a lot of friends. They were enthusiastic, warmhearted, friendly and humorous. When I met difficulties, they would encourage me and support me. We often helped each other and tried our best to improve our quality of working. They made my volunteer work colorful. I think the experience was beneficial to my future life.

That is my experiences of being a volunteer. I hope more and more people can join in the volunteer work and care more about other people. You can feel the happiness when you are helping others. If all of us can lend others a hand, our society will be full of love, warmth and peace.
