This semester, right after the Test for English Majors, our intensive reading teacher gave us an assignment---- to demonstrate dramas. The two classes were divided into four groups. We separately chose our own scripts and rehearsed hundreds of times. Our group selected a story from the series play Friends. Firstly, we distributed the characters. Since there were only two boys in our team, but four actors were required, one of the girls should act as a gentleman. As we were endeavoring to figure out who had the talent to behave like a boy, one of us suggested that two girls pretend to be men and one boy to be a woman. We came to consensus on that suggestion, for it could contribute not only to attract the attention of audience but also to produce extra humorous elements. So the final resolution came out, that is, a boy called Mc Greedy was to play the heroine, Rachel, while another girl and I play Chandelier and Joey. Having finished the distribution of roles, we began to rehearse according to the original draft. As we proceeded, we gradually realized that some of the initial scenes were too complex to revive, which might bewilder the audience. In that case, we revised the draft in order to make it easily understood. Our rehearsal last for two weeks, on the last night of which we focused on players’ costume and the background music. Since some of us were to act as his or her opposite gender, we should wear appropriate clothes accordingly. The most difficult thing was to dress a boy with girls’clothes, because he was relatively stronger than any of the girls. Finally we picked out a skirt for him. What’s more, one of us had some acquaintance in the cosplay association, from which she borrowed artificial hair for the “heroine”. With everything ready, we performed it on the next afternoon. At the very beginning, our major characters amused the audience because the expected beautiful heroine was played by a boy dressed in a white shirt and a white skirt dotted with black flowers accompanied by a pair of white sandal. Meanwhile, he wore long hair, walked femininely and spoke with soft voice, leaving the spectators shaking their sides with laughter. What’s more, the male major character was also acted by a boy, who had to hug his lover and kiss “her”. When they did kiss each other, we almost laughed to death. All the four groups having finished their performance, our teacher declared us to be the best players.
This experience will remain in my mind forever, because it was the first time I’d played in a drama. What’s more, I enjoyed the joy of friendship and sense of accomplishment.
