Father

It's a common topic to talk about one's father, but for me, it's a strength-taking task, for I am not a person who is good at expressing his or her emotions. Nevertheless, the one that exerts the most influence on me is no one else but him.

I am thankful for his enlightened education to me. I’m sill keeping the album he made for me in which are suffused with my childish paintings done in my childhood. These include the irregular graphics which I named as father, mother, house, ant, and so on, the strange combined lines which was the so-called Chinese characters I created, and some absolutely abstract doodle, which, some days later, has become one of the most fashionable art forms throughout the world. For my painting, he didn’t guide anything, and just let me draw what I’d love to. The same education method was used though my study years-never has he said a single word about my study. And the strangest thing happens: I did a very good job in school compared with those who were charged everyday at home. Maybe, the more he is “careless” about me, the more I want to prove myself. In addition, that I have a wide range of interests and have a changeable disposition must be all related to his way of educating.

I am thankful for his great care for me in my lives. The most striking event in my mind was the day when I was taking the college entrance exam. As I was in a boarding school, I just came home once a month when I was in high school. When the exam was drawing near, Father asked me whether I need some daily-ties. I said no, I could buy them myself. In fact, I don’t want to disturbed by anyone before the destiny-deciding exam. Father read what I thought, and agreed. After I had my first subject done—Chinese, the dormitory teacher came to me, and gave me a package of food, saying that someone sent it to me under my father’s requirement. I thanked her. I knew there was no “someone” but my father himself. He came to my school, in order to stick up to his commitment; he didn’t have an audience with me. What a great father!

I am thankful for his leaving so much memory for me. Not only the album containing my paintings, he recorded videos for me since I was born, using the outdated vidicon of his firm. Recently, he had the videos transformed into DVD, saying that it’s the best memory he had left for me. Besides, he kept a diary, namely “Andy’s growing diary”, in which he wrote with the softest heart to commit the interesting words and behaviors in my daily life. I happened to see the diary once, but he never mentioned it to me. Maybe he will give it to me as a legacy when he was old. The photos he has taken are numerous, of course. I’m always proud of this, when my friends call in my home. They would be amazed at the amount and quality of these photos my father has taken.  Father really has left a big fortune for me.

Not long ago was Father’ Day. As my shyness was working, I dared not call him and say “Dear Father, Happy Father’s Day!” as all my other roommates had done. After being obsessed for long, I decided to send an e-mail to him. No sentimental words were included, just a e-card. But I know, that’s enough for him. The next day, I received an e-mail from him, saying “The card has been received, thanks!” From his also simple words, I can feel his moved heart.

As my father is utterly ignorant of English, I dare express my thankfulness to him here. Father, I love you always!
