My friends often ask me why you choose the mathematics as your career goal. Mathematics is not only tedious and hard, but it does not help you afford increasing price of household and buy a beautiful car. I always reply that my interest in mathematics encourages me to do that. Although I clearly know that I am lack of talent in mathematics, I also clearly know that I possess many excellent qualities such as determination, perseverance and strong will, which are very important characteristics for doing mathematical research.

My interest in mathematics stems from my unusual experience in college. My major is information and computing science closely related to computer and mathematical science in college. Because this major is cross-edge discipline, the most of my classmates including me pursued IT’ field as a career goal. However, when I did advanced mathematical exercises for China’s Graduate Record Exam, I discovered many interesting but confusing problems which I never discovered before. These problems just like my shadow tightly followed me every day. When I lay on the bed for sleep, these problems also never left me, and appeared in my mind. I clearly knew that if I did not address them, they came to me all the time. Through searching related materials, discussing them with my teachers and classmates, and continuously thinking about them, I finally solved them. During this process, I accidentally encountered a sound mathematical book, Modern Analytics Summary. This book broadened my mind and gave me some new views about analytics. Since then I found my life had to do with mathematics, especially in aspect of analytics.

Aside from my strong interest, I have many excellent characteristics which are necessary for doing mathematical research. For example, few would disagree with that perseverance plays a significant role in the process of research. Doing a mathematical research, just like a long distance race, demands that researchers have enough encouragement and perseverance. I insist on running every night in order to temper my perseverance.

I choose the mathematics as my career goal because I like it. I am confident that I will achieve a great number of significant results because I possess excellent characteristics.
