Encountering with Weasels in Campus

Three times have I met weasels in our campus these days.

When I first met it on the moorland next to Yunyuan canteen, I didn’t feel so surprised as I expected. It’s fun to meet them in a campus with thousands of students. I just couldn’t help wondering how can they survive in such circumstances, or maybe they were just busy trudgers, with our school one of their stops.

The next time I saw it, I felt a little homesick. It recallled some of my childhood memories. When I was 7 or 8 years old, there was once a large melon patch outside our villege, which was owned by one of my neighbours. In a sweltering summer night, I had a wonderful time  in the melon-shed with several elder children as the watchmen.  We talked and ate water melon happily( you can’t imagine how many melons had we eaten!). In the midnight, some kids wanted to go to the toilet. Several kids including me went with him as companion. Just when we walked out of the shed, I saw a pair of sparkling little eyes.  “weasel!” I cried out. We all stoped, staring at the little creature. The scene that some scarey kids facing with a panic-stricken weasel in a beautiful melon patch left a deep impression on me. Each time I saw the word “weasel” or a picture of it, i would think of my childhood friends and my hometown, especially the no longer existent melon patch.

The day before yesterday, i met it again. These free spirites of night marched hastily into the bushes outside the NO14 apartment, with soft moonlight tracking they through the dancing foliages. I didn’t,as at previous two times,  feel so sad or surprised . Instead, I felt some kind of blue. Suddenly I felt frustrated and lonely .it seemed almost wholly uncalled-for. maybe the weasels were just the poor scapegoat.

To tell the truth, I was a little envious of them. They were always so busy and never have the feeling of inane, so prudent and never take a chance to scramble for roads with a car.          I belieave they are the king of the bushes and of themselves. They had families to support and always hold their ultimate goal---survive,no matter when and where they are. What a sample but purposeful life they lead!

I don’t think it is just a coincidence to meet them three times. I would rather regard them as messengers from my hometown, connecting myself with my childhood memories; or they are reminders, informing me some philosophy of simple life .
