This is a living rule,I heard about today,among the PhDs' carrer or scientific community, which was first put forward on the famous journal NATURE.(http://www.nature.com/news/2010/100112/full/463142a.html?s=news_rss)

 

Publish,means if a newspaper or magazine publishes a letter, article etc, it prints it for people to read.At this sentence,it refers to publish a paper on the SCI or EI etc.

Perish,formal or literaryMXto die, especially in a terrible or sudden way. Simply speaking,death.However,I am be willing to translate it into the meaning of get out of the scientific community.

 

I’m deeply impressed with the two words.It is well known that Chinese have made a great progress with the development of our country.  More and more research paper have been published on high level magazine or journal.In fact, due to system that a promotion or salary increase depends largely on one thing: The number of research papers he or she manages to publish,we all have doubt on whether we have made gread progress in science.

 

It's a systematic problem which can't be solve by one university or one policy.Maybe I was under this rule now.what my answer is that, survival of the fittest.

 

when I search some information and the phrase I have learned a rhetorical device called Alliteration.It means the use of several words together that begin with the same sound or letter in order to make a special effect, especially in poetry accroding to longman dictionary.publish and perish is the perfect example.Give you more if you are interested in it.
