One of ten national flowers
When it comes to china’s national flower, the answer has always been clouded. Many people will say that peony (mudan) is the national flower of China. However, other people argue that we do not have national flower.
Indeed, China does not have an “official” national flower, but the peony can be regard as a national favorite. The tree peony received the most votes in a survey conducted in 1994 in every district in China asking people to select a National Flower------a high honor for the peony in a country that loves flowers. The peony is Chinese traditional flower and it has been considered the “GuoSeTianXiang” and “the king of flowers”.
Another flower almost has been forgotten by people. In history, peony and plum blossom are appreciated by people.
In the Tang Dynasty plum was known as the King of the flowers.
In 1903, the Qing Dynasty declared the plum as the national flower.
In 1929, Plum has been identified as the national flower of the National government.
The professor Chen Junyu who is the first initiator of discussing and electing the national flower proposed that plum is the national flower as early as 1982. And later, he put forward “one country, two flowers (peony and plum)”.
As often said: ”Bao Jianfeng out from sharpening, plum blossom from the bitter cold.” Glum, which represents firm and indomitable, refuse to be cowed or submit, boldly, unremitting self-improvement spirit quality.
The top ten flowers are plum blossom, peony, chrysanthemum, orchid, rose, cuckoo, lotus, camellia, osmanthus, narcissu.
Here are some pictures of plum that I collected from internet.
