A worrisome protest, product of narrow minds

398 views. 2010-1-11 15:19 |

Since August 2009, the relationship between China and Japan has gained its momentum toward cooperation. Hatoyama Yukio, the new Prime Minister of Japan, pledges not to visit the Yasukuni Shrine in his stint and this is a good start for the two countries to allay the troublesome bilateral relationship. Last month, our vice chairman, Xi Jinping visited Japan to seek for expediting the development of bilateral relations. But in January 10, a protest against Chinese Japanese was fomented by Japanese rightists and this threw shade on the future development of the two neighbors. Few days ago, police authorities of Tokyo informed Sun City shop, which sell commodities specially for Chinese Japanese, of an impending protest against Chinese Japanese before it and there would be about more than 100 person take part in it, fanned by four right-wing organizations. When it was about noon, the atmosphere of Chidai bus station was becoming tense sundenly.4 buses belonged to Tokyo Policeman bureau pulled over and fully-armed policemen jumped off the buses to march toward the west exit of Chidai Station with shields in hands. Before the west exit, there had been more than 40 diehards from right-wing organizations gathered there. According to investigation, these persons were called to take part in this protest through internet. They waved Japan national flag and held banners on which, some slogans were against the immigration policies of Democratic Party. Some slogans were against the construction plan of Tokyo Chinese Street. Some copies of reports of a Hongkonger’s stealing of a jewelry in January2 were demonstrated too.some slogans just maliciously slandered China. The propositions of rightists are a hodgepodge of viewpoints. Some of them gave a speech to attack Japanese government’s policy toward China. They criticized that in last December, when Ichiro Ozawa,DPJ Secretary General, led a delegation to visit China, every legislator shook hands with Chinese leaders. They asserted that such demean pilgrimage would subjugate Japan in the future. Some rightist flayed the policies of DPJ on immigration, decision-making procedure involving foreigners and history assessment. Some people asserted that about 110,000 Chinese had gained Japan nationality and about 140,000 Chinese had gained permanent visas. Now, the streets of Tokyo were full of Chinese and Japan was nearly to be occupied by Chinese.
At the locale, a Chinese female student stood out and refuted them that they were Right-wing Rubbishes. When seeing they want to do violence against this girl, policemen rushed to protect the courageous Chinese girl. After finished their shouting before policemen, they set out to Sunny city shop to make trouble. At this time, policemen circled them tightly and set iron barrier around them. They shouted slogans madly and tried to break through the barrier but policemen stood firmly on their way. Half an hour later, some rightists showed up before the shop from different ways. But policeman had waited for them in advance. They were warned not to approach this shop. A people sneaked to the shop and throw out a beverage bottle toward the shop. Policemen swooped down on him immediately.
When the hour hand of clock pointed to 2pm, a police car rushed to the locale and broadcast like this: According to the protest time you applied for, this protest must be finished now and you must be dismissed or you would be sued definitely. After policemen repeated this several times, these rightists began to leave unwillingly.
According to resources, there are about 20000 Chinese Japanese lived in Chidai district of Tokyo. There are about 400 shops owned by Chinese, including Chinese restaurants and supermarkets, travel agents, beauty parlors, schools, kindergartens, medias, etc, Chidai district is a communication hub in which there are large amount of Chinese shops to provide services for Chinese. So, Chidai district has become an important place for Chinese to gather, especially in weekend.
The reasons why Japanese rightists attacked the Chidai district lie in three aspects. Firstly, in February3,a report of a famous Japan newspaper introduced the flourishing businesses of Chinese shops in Chidai district and predicted that there would be second Chinese street after Yakohama Chinese street. This new thing shocked the Japan society heavily. Some people shouted: Crush Chinese street. Secondly, some Japanese were disappointed about the immigration policy of DPJ. For the last decades of years, the aging society of Japan has been severer than other developed countries. Drawing into foreign labors is a crux of resolving this problem. So,every governments of Japan insist on push forward the internationalized process of Japan. After DPJ came to power last year, they made a large number of preferential policies for foreigners and these policies were strongly against by some Japanese. Thirdly, some people think Chinese affect the employment of Japanese. These years, more and more Chinese work or study in Japan. There are about 700000 Chinese live in Japan legally. In addition to those stay in Japan illegally, there are about 1000000 Chinese in Japan. Chinese students are always working in their leisure time too.To some extent, this will influence the employment of Japanese, especially when Japan is plummeted by unprecedented financial crisis. In my opinion, some Japanese are so narrow-minded that they ascribe all responsibilities to Chinese while don’t consider how much Chinese contribute to their social and economic development. Besides, there are many Japanese in China too, but we never throw stones at them!
