I think it means a good start.

These days, I am confused by the controversial choices, serving as outdoor toilet cleaner, of five undergraduates of Jinan , captical city of Shandong Province. It was reported that recently, 5 undergraduates signed contracts with the Second Manure Delivery and Management Division of Jinan after probation of half a year. They are the winners out of 400 competitors. They majors in Computer, Law, etc.

Traditionally speaking, toilet cleaning is considered as a job engaged in by persons possessing no much knowledges, say, farmer workers or the crippled. Most people think undergraduates should do “high-end” jobs featuring mental labour and high treatment. So, when they hear that there are so many undergraduates vying for a “low-end” job, they think these students  are touching a forbidden zone. I think the impact of these offbeat job-hunters on the minds of stick-in-the-mud is akin to the shock aroused by bold cosmic theory of Bruneau on then conservative Italy society. Brunean was condemned by the Inquisition for heresy, immoral conduct and blasphemy. At last, he was burned at the sake. Yes, I think now, not only those related undergaduates, but also byholders are contemplating the real meaning of this “strong earthquake of job market”. I don’t want to touch such a complicated problem for it is above my head. But when seeing so many people getting invovling into the contend, I can’t resist the temptation of it and throw myself into the “battle”.

After learning of all kinds of opinions about this problem, I think of one Chinese fable story—The blind men and the elephant. It depicts how different blind man gets  different images of an elephant by touching different parts of the elephant body. In this discussion, some people support the decision of these undergraduates. They quote a saying which goes: Every profession produces its own topmost master. There should not be status discrimanition toward some professions. These undergraduates should be praised for they can change their mindsets and can challenge the traditional discrimination and bias. They support themselves through hard working. Compared with those who would rather live in the cuddle of their parents after graduation than live on themselves, these undergraduates have mature, balanced moods and brave facing the reality. This kind of undergraduates is really " Son of the Sky".

Other people say the choice of these students reflects the poor ability of some undergraduates. They look down on them for these students are not good at their majors. Serving as toilet cleaners is their only choice. This sounds right. Since 1999, more and more colleges have been established and the number of undergraduates is becoming bigger and bigger. At the same time, the quality of undergraduates couldn’t be guaranteed. Some just goof around in campus for four years and fail to gain necessary knowledges and technology. This is the inevitable result of our failed education system and difficult employment situation. This is a huge waste of Social resources.

I am on the side of these new “ toilet cleaners”. If I was one of them, I would make the same choice instead of being starved to death. Yes, every professnion produces its own topmost masters. Who dare predict that toilet cleaning is not a promising profession. Compared with developed countries, the development of our hygience industry is quite slowly. It is still a maiden land which can provide a spacious stage for insightful talents. I remember that after graduating from university, one of my classmates gave up the comfortable life in Harbin and came back to his hometown to raise pigs. At the beginning, we all laughted at him, but now, we dare not, for he is a tycoon now while we are still snuggling in an office to do works the same as fifteen years ago. Time can tell what is right and what is wrong. Yes, I don’t deny toilet cleaning is a job need not too much knowledges. But it provide a precious opportunity for students to hone their iron wills which is very important for their next job. Seeing from this aspect, undergraduates’s serving as toilet cleaners is not a waste of social resources. Now, lemme tell you a story about a story of a Japanese woman whose name I can’t remember. She once worked in Tokyo Imperial Hotel and was assigned to clean toilet. In the first day, she almost vormitted when she put her hands into a toilet. After tolarating this nasty job for several days, she made her mind to quit it. Just at that time, she found that an old toilet cleaner drink a cup of water he got from the toilet cleaned by himand , told her proundly that toilet water was drinkable if the toilet was carefully cleaned. She was shocked by the dedication of the elder. She cancelled her ideas of quiting and became the most excellent worker of this hotel.  Laterly, she become the Post Minister of Japan in her 37 years old. If she could be successful after being a toilet cleaner, why couldn’t our brave undergraduates?

What's more, one  important meaning of this phenomanon is that it is good for our society to let undergraduates step down form altar and come back to real world. The halo of undergraduates has attracted all stratum of society vying for coming into universities. Now, after witnessing college student also dab into the job of toilet things, parents  would think of other choices for their children. This is a good news of our education reform.

Don't lose heart. China is a big country. We must touch up our systems gradually. Too fast or too slowly is not suitable to our reality.
