We are all familiar with tug of war and when we are in school, we always take part in this exciting game in school sports meetings. But for me, the memory of tug of war has been continuing fading away untill two weeks ago, when a thrilling tug of war happened. The competitors were a weak lady and a fierce crocodile. The husband of the lady served as a substitute of rope. The result is the weak woman winning over the crocodile.

In March4, when Laurence Romont, a ranger of Yimuluzi Wild Animal Reserve, South Africa, roamed along a river with Cline, his 5 months pregnant wife. Their fiesty puppy runned around them. Laurence was suddenly attacked by a 3-metre-long nile crocodile. Cline grasped the neck and arms of her husband and carried out a trilling tug of war with crocldile. The trophy would be priceless: her husband’s life. According to recall of Laurence, he wanted to check whether the pump of  a camp close to a river worked well before the attack of corcodile. At that time, sunset was very appealing, they waded in the shallow water area and then sat on a reverside stone, patting their feet on water and enjoying the sofe massage of river. While they did not realize that imminent danger was approaching them. All in a sudden, a crocodile bolted out of the river like a lightening and bit the left foot of Laurence and dragged him toward the deep center of the river. Out of instinct, Laurence immediately grasped a stone with both of her hands and then kicking the nose of the crocodile wtih his right foot. It worked, the pain forced the crocodile loosing its bite. But in a blink , it bit both of his feet and this time, he could not kick it again. Seeing her husband was going to be pulled into deep water, Cline summoned her courage and held the neck and arm of Laurence and pulled him toward bank desperately, not considering of her pregnancy. Their drag was quickly changed into a stagnancy. She did not know how long it had past. At last, the crocodile gave up, loosing his greedy mouth and retreated into river. After Cline pulled his husband to a safe place on river bank, she yelled for help for the feet of Laurence was badly mutilated beyond recognition. EMT rushed to the scece quickly and drove them to hospital. According to resources, in Africa, there are several hundreds of people killed by crocodiles every year. Laurence is not one of them, for he has a courageous wife.

So, I advice those single activists that having a wife, sometimes, can save your life. There was another trilling tug of war happened in America. In this game, one competitor was still a wife, her counterpart was the earth. Her husband was also a substitute of rope. The wife, named as Mary, and his husband, Robert, were going mountaineering in a sunny day in summer. After several hours of ascending, they at last stood on the top of the mountain successfully, appreciating the vista of undulating mountains. Resident buildings of far away city forms a nice painting under the mellow sun. They raised their heads to see the azure sky and nobly pure clouds, with breeze stroking teir hair. The two were quite happy, jumping up and down like children. For them who kept busy on their strenuous work, this was smack a hard-to-get refreshment. Tragedy always happens in the moment of ecstacy. Suddenly, Robert slipped down toward the edge of a deep cliff. He couldn’t grasp anything to stop this fatal sliding for there  were only smooth stones near him. Just at the moment, Mary , taking pictures of scenes , understood instinctively what was happening. Subconciously, she bit the coat of her husband Because of the huge inertia, she was dragged toward the edge of the cliff too. Luck she was for she held a tree occassionally. The tug of war begun. Robert was dangling in the air and Mary clenched her teeth concentrating all her strength. Can you believe two row of little white teeth was withstanding the whole weight of her hulking husband. She couldn’t yell for help or her husband would plummet immediately. One hour later, a tourist found them and managed to save them. After they were pulled out of danger, lips and teeth of Mary had been covered with fresh blood. People asked how Mary could hold on so long? Mary said: Then I had only one thought, i.e. If I give up, Robert would die. Person, who learn of their experience, all say that Death would shy away from a people who clenching their teeth tightly.
