Envoy of Spring

435 views. 2010-3-22 14:56 |

During the past winter, I have been wearing a dark blue down wears with a dorky hood behind it. Now, the cold snap is gaving way to warm stream, but I have no the same impulsion to put on blazers as before. Quite to the contrary, I pick up a dark brwon thin cotton jacket. The reason is simple--the sky is brown too. The biggest sandstorm since 1999 is waltzing through our motherlands. Harbin is just one of its stop. Designating yellow sand to knock open the door of spring instead of green grass, anyway, is not an expected way for us to usher in an engaging spring. In my memory, we should greet spring in the same way as Zhu Ziqing, a famous writer in China—In longing, the east wind is coming, the footstep of spring is becoming clearer. The whole world looks just awake, opening their eyes with surprise: Hills look bright and wet. Water is surging secretly. The face of sun is becoming ruddy…Spring is like a nascent baby, every part of it is new and is appealing…

While these years, springs always stagger toward us with the company of nasty sands and big winds. It is reportedly that in the soutern of china, which is not usually an stopover of sandstorm, is visited by sandstrom too this year and people in this region don’t know how to deal with sandstorms at all. According to a picture, a lady is staggering in a street, wearing a plastic bag on her head. Through the plastic bag, I discern a little panic and worry on her contenance.

In March20, Shandong province was hit by this sandstorm from west to east. The air was teemed with unbearable sands. No more pedestrians appeared in the streets. The whole pavement, surface of vehicles were covered with a brown gauze. According to the introduction of meteorologists, this sandstorm would affect an area of 180 million square kilometres, altogether 0.27 billion people would have intimate contact with the brown gauze.

And sandstorm has a new taste now---going aboard. Yesterday night, The middle of Honshu of Japan was dropped by yellow sandstorm ensued a heavy thunderstorm. It is reported that Japanese is plagued by sandstorm in this season with vehicles covered with a layer of earth, clothes stained by dirty raindrops. In other seasons, Japanese usually wash their cars monthly but now they wash them more frequently. We chinese at last can retaliate Japanese for their rampage in China in last centrury., but the cost we spend is quite huge.

For human beings, sandstorm is not a thing worthy of praise. The worry and fear of people toward sandstorm base not only on the nasty vision and discomfortable smell of earth, illnesses caused by it, but also on the adverse damage it imposes on plantation, people and husbandry safety.

Living with the sandstorm, quite a lot people walk outside with a mouthmask or a gauze scarf. These are unwilling choice: Who prefer to welcome spring in thick clothes. Scientific study shows that sandstorm is a hazardous weather whose forming result from globle warming, Elnino phenomanon, sharpe decrease of forest, deterioration of plantation and extinction of creatures. Among them, elements, related to population explosion, such as, excessive exploition of nature resources, excessive cutting down forest, excessive reclaimant of farmlands, are main reasons of freqhent standstorm. These years, in order to reduce the sandstorm, people do some strenuous work.. But desertification is still crunching farmlands. Compared to the prodigious debt we owed to our Mature Nature, those poor trees we plant, those lots which we change into groves from farmlands, those environment protection facilities, are nothing. What human beings repay nature is meager. We must acknowledge that the ubiquitous yellow sands are just the protest of nature aginst the nonstop usurping of its nature resources .

Spring is on her way, we can’t order the wind to recede and, we can’t scold the occasion fierceness of nature. On the countrary, we should thank sandstorm for its tolling the alarming bell for us. Those who living in the regions where sandstorm comes into being have the direct responsibilities of stymieing the march of desertification. We who live afar from those regions are not spectators too. Protecting our environment is our common challenging task and anyone can’t shy away from it. It is time for us to react to this crisis. Only when we all are equiped with environment consciousnesses, take care of our environemnt commonly, live low carbon lives, spring can come again with a refreshing smell of newly churned earth in her wind, blending with taste of green grass and fragrances of al kinds of flowers…

Last Saturday, Beijing was hit by the sandstorm, and today, we come across the same terrible situation. Looking into the air, we just see dust and sand. Maybe from the window, we just see the buildings are covered by yellow 'shine', as if we take a look at a yellowing picture with age, perhaps touching us. However, when we get out of the building, it is totally a desaster. We cannot breathe freely and we have to lower our heads, cover our faces.  I cannot connect poetic spring with such a terrific scene.
My friend told me the cherry flower is blossoming in Wuhan University, and many people come to their school to take a look-around. His school is crowded by people ,wearing T-shirt from different places. When I hear this, I am envy of him for he is lucky enough to enjoy a beautiful spring. What a pity, I do not.
Yeah, it is true that we shall take some measures to make our environment better. Good suggestion.

I am very glad that my poor article can arise your resonance and I hope more and more people can realize how serious the problem is. I am an optimistic person, but as far as environment protection is concerned, I still can't see light at the other side of a tunnel. Now, the environment protection mechanism of our society is under defunction. Enviroment bureau at ever levels are just dungs. They can't do anything. When serious pollution incident occurs, what they can do is moaning for lacking money and personnel. But the fact is, no matter how many workers they have, how much pubulic finance they squander, they still can't do anything. They are disabled. First, they don't know what are their responsiblities. Second, some of these carders  are dying to get rich through power rent-seeking. Now, it is time for our men in the street to do something to protect our environment. Measures, such as using less of napkins, saving every drop water, discarding vehicles to a great extent, and what's more, we should prompt thrift life style. I think, nowadays, the policies of encouraging consumption are colliding with our goals of environment protection.
