Foreign language speaking is harder than writing

Hot 6724 views. 2015-4-8 16:30 | speaking, Foreign, writing, harder

In China, students start learning English in primary school and now children are taught English by their parents even in one or two years. Reciting words, learning grammar and exercising listening are the main ways of studying for Chinese students, which proves not effective much in practice. Most senior high school students could not use the word properly, let alone making a complete sentence. That’s quite embarrassing but is true.

Theory needs to be put into practice, so does language. Only in the process of using it as a communication tool can we grasp it better. Traditional learning ways are only for exams.

I’ve learnt English for nearly ten years now. It’s still hard for me to speak with foreigners freely. I don’t know why I am afraid to talk to them. When looking in their eyes, I am eager to find words on minds to express myself but mostly fail to do that. So every time before I intend to report to my foreign boss, I would spend long time making the sentence in advance. After entering his office and being face to face with him, I totally forget what I am going to say. Sometimes I thought if he was my not my boss but friend, maybe I’ll feel free to talk to him. After all the basic communications should not be a tough task for me.

I know practice makes perfect. But the chance that speaking with your boss more often to improve my oral English is remote for me. I just need find other ways.

To me, listening is the most difficult thing for foreign language . I can barely get  what they are talking .  How terrible !

Acutally, do not need to shelter eye contact which is a nature way to commiunicate. It is right that you make a preparation before reporting to your boss, just feel fine when you are talking to him. Eyes are to be the pure mirror from which we can tell everything, such as sincerity, friendship, and we can even read hostile. So when we talk, do the best to keep reading eyes as a respect and also a chance to read his mind.
I am doing in this way, and I feel it is ok to speak with foreigners or with foreign clients, just find it easy to have a communication with them.
Practice makes perfect, I believe that you can get better. Come on.

I don't think it is of great trouble to speak with foreigners,  who are merely ordinary people with different cultural backgrounds. You must be brave enough to practice your oral English with potential partners, no matter Chinese or foreigners. Please take every oppotunity you can to practice your English so that you will improve a lot after sometime. Good luck with you dear.

Haha. For me, speaking is more easier than writing, for I think writing need type or write, it is a little bit troublesome, but speaking seems easy. I can understand what they say, and they can know what I am talking.

If you don't have many opportunities to speak with someone else, you can read some materials aloud regularly, and it's much better if you can repeat it without the script. Besides the physical skill to speak, you can also definitely improve your fluency by prepare yourself mentally when facing your boss, including enhancing your confidency and staying calm. Good Luck.
