In China, students start learning English in primary school and now children are taught English by their parents even in one or two years. Reciting words, learning grammar and exercising listening are the main ways of studying for Chinese students, which proves not effective much in practice. Most senior high school students could not use the word properly, let alone making a complete sentence. That’s quite embarrassing but is true.
Theory needs to be put into practice, so does language. Only in the process of using it as a communication tool can we grasp it better. Traditional learning ways are only for exams.
I’ve learnt English for nearly ten years now. It’s still hard for me to speak with foreigners freely. I don’t know why I am afraid to talk to them. When looking in their eyes, I am eager to find words on minds to express myself but mostly fail to do that. So every time before I intend to report to my foreign boss, I would spend long time making the sentence in advance. After entering his office and being face to face with him, I totally forget what I am going to say. Sometimes I thought if he was my not my boss but friend, maybe I’ll feel free to talk to him. After all the basic communications should not be a tough task for me.
I know practice makes perfect. But the chance that speaking with your boss more often to improve my oral English is remote for me. I just need find other ways.
