scholarship

The evaluation of scholarship makes me suffer a lot. Good news and bad news alternately bombard my nerves; I must be a little daisy at the mercy of the desert. Good news is I’m among the candidates; bad news is my relatively lower mark, the Achilles’ heel, kicks me out from the position. Thus I experience the best of times and the worst of times.

When everyone is busy calculating their marks and listing awards, the whole dormitory becomes a battlefield where a silent war is taking place. Competitions and battles share something in common. During a war, only know both ourselves and our adversaries, can we win victory in every fight. Yet the fact is neither the adversaries ask for our information, which is often got by spies and estimation nor we initiatively offer real information to them. In competition, we also naturally comply with the “rule”: On the one hand, ranking is greatly associated with scholarship and qualification of recommendation; since everyone is selfish, it is hypocritical that those with high marks hardly care about their ranks. On the other hand, people tend to be modest and avoid asking other’s marks directly, because keening on knowing is regarded as ambitious behavior which annoys them very much. Finally, we resort to silence and indifference on the surface, but remain nervous at heart.

Inquiring can satisfy our curiosities but has nothing to do with the situation. Why are we so afraid of asking and answering? Is it necessary for us to concentrate on the ranks so intensively as to lose sleep? Is there any better ways to ease the intense relationship between classmates? After thinking of these three questions, I decide to exert myself on studies and let nature take its course. If I really want to know, I will ask the monitor personally when the evaluation is finished. Try to be open-minded and everything will be fine!

After three years of study in university, we become less concerned about the scholarship.
