Why Are Books So Expensive Now???

920 views. 2009-4-23 23:31 |

To be frank, I have a hobby that I like strolling around bookstores to pick some books I like. So some of my friends call be "literature youth".

When I was a high school student, I liked reading some literary works influenced by my Chinese teacher. No matter some foreign literature like "The Unbearable Lightness of Being" written by Milan Kundera or many Chinese proses by Liang Heng, I have read a lot. As a college student, I began to read some professional books on computers for I majored in Management Information System. Besides, "Youth Literary Digest" and "Readers" are my favorites which I can learn many moving stories from.

But I also have a bad habbit that rarely do I complete reading an entire book. So the situation is that I spend a lot of money to buy books but I can't finish reading them. Sometimes I only read several pages of a book and put it aside. It is waste of money and I know that. But I prefer buying books to read to borrow books from libraries. I'm a little weird, right?

Yesterday I bought three books in Shanghai Book Mall near my university. After putting them on the counter do I find that they cost me more than 100 yuan. Sooo expensive that I can hardly believe. A book named "in Search of Explanations for Everyday Enigmas"(牛奶可乐经济学)with only 200 pages cost me 39.5 yuan! It's a robbery!

Never do I thought the books would have cost me so much money. Why are books so expensive now?

haha~I bear resemblances to you in many aspects~
I am fond of reading foreign literatures, really the opposite of Chinese, both in thoughts and rhetoric. But always puzzled by some foreign essays with imprecise translation, I feel the external masterpieces have lost their primary taste.
The expense on books obsesses me all the time. Now I go to the bookstore to seek books and magazines I prefer to, then do on-line shopping in JOYO or Dangdang.Really economical and resolve the problem that I am accustomed to reading books belonging to myself.

That is true. But if I own a real book, I can read it in the subways or in classes to kill time, right?

I think the most expensive book is in the US. I don't buy the books in the bookstore. I go to the ebay, other online stores to buy much cheap books. Maybe you can find the cheap book you want online too in China.
