Stories during National Day’s Celebration

During National Day’s Celebration I had a getaway to join a magnificent wedding from nosy and busy city life. After one relaxing day I hosted an outdoor English activity to practice my English. When I enjoyed these events, I also met some annoying things, some of them let me know what I shall do in the future.

Before I started the trip to Xuzhou city, I decide to take every single valuable picture. The first picture I shot describes an indicator board in a park with a wrong English expression on it. I think that is a Chglish(Chinese style English). So I put my index finger in the middle position of lips and I don’t want to tell this to the server of the park. Then I recorded the others showing at the public places that maybe Chglish(some maybe not).

In this park, Qinhu Wetland Park, I feel pure and real nature. A group of ducks are playing on the lake. Some seem to be pursuing their ideal mates (Should the scene happen on autumn?). Several red-crowned cranes are taking a break in the forest. Some ponds are so full of lotus leaves that I can’t even see the water between their gaps. And then I sat on the front board of a little boat listening to a village woman singing country songs and watching sun falling slowly. At night we got a wonderful hotel to sleep. That’s facilities even made me feel I live in the palace (But it is the only one which provided comfortable service during the full trip.). The hotel provided us so many daily necessaries that we couldn’t use them up.

The purpose of this getaway is to attend in a wedding. But we missed the most important scene. The groom brings his staff to welcome his bride. Oh! What’s a depressing thing! And the village head invited everyone to have a feast at night. We all, my mother, father, uncle, were shocked by a large amount of dishes. And we were instilled by alcohol because of rare rules of toasting in the country. Happiness became a nightmare…

Oct.7th, I hosted an English activity on schedule. We played “三国杀” with our foreign guests. I try my best to teach them. But I immediately realized my English level isn’t enough good to teach them. After a moment, I became nervous and anxious because I couldn’t express what I want to say! How can I translate Chinese idiom? They’re followed with Chinese ancient stories. And its background knowledge needs many new words to say. But now I grasp some limited words that can’t make a complete sentence. So the result became worse and worse when the foreign guests invited us to visit their home. I can’t remember what I said at that time. I’m sure most of communication goes with gestures… I don’t know about western polite manners. When I said “I want to kill you” to my French friends while playing a game, I was really sure he was shocked by my words! One thing is certain that is I need to study harder!

But, I’m worried that study needs practice? What are our foreign friends thinking?
