Mary’s banquet is held at Lijing restaurant at 7 on Saturday evening. It is six fifty when Molly drives her car there. The car club sent her car back yesterday. It was not too badly damaged. But they repaired it well and made it as new as a bride. Jack is ignorant about limousine’s brands. But he is interested in the trade mark of the car. It looks like a fan wheel. He asks Molly what the car is called. The latter’s eyes open wider.

‘You’re joking, boy? You even don’t know its name? Benz, did you heard it?’

‘Ah, yes, I did. But I never what a Benz looks like. How much is it, may I ask?’ Jack’s curiosity transfers to the brands.

‘Not much, only over one million.’

Jack’s mouth comes open and even grudges closing. No wonder she regarded ten thousand as pocket money.

玛丽的饭局在丽晶酒店，时间是周六晚上七点。六点五十分，茉莉驾车赶到那里。昨天，车友会把她的车送回来了。车子损坏得不太严重，修理工把它弄得完好如初。杰克对汽车的品牌知之甚少。不过，他很喜欢这辆车的标牌，像个风扇轮子。他跟茉莉打听车子的品牌，后者的眼睛睁得大大的。

‘你别开玩笑啦，帅哥。你竟然不知道这车叫什么名字？奔驰，听说过吧？’

‘啊，听说过，可是，不知道奔驰长什么样。这车多少钱？’杰克的好奇心转向车子的品牌。

‘不贵，只有百多万。’

杰克的嘴张得大大的，难怪她把一万元当作零钱。

 ‘Welcome you both,’ Mary says hugging Molly warmly, then reach to shake Jack’s hand. ‘Why haven’t you introduced your boyfriend to me, Molly? How do I call him?’ She makes no afford to hide her surprise at Jack. She apparently takes him as her Adonis.

‘Ha, ha, ha, you’re wrong, my dear Mary. Let me introduce him to you. This is Jack, my friend. Jack, this is Mary, my former classmate and bosom friend. Now are you content, Mary?’ Molly manages to show her innocence.

‘Ah, I am terribly sorry, Jack. I meant joking just now. Please forgive me, will you? I often played mischief with Molly when we were in the school, didn’t we, Molly?’ Mary is eager to find her an out.

‘Oh, it doesn’t matter, Mary. On the contrast, I can realize the intimate footing between both of you. In reality, I knew Molly only a week ago. But I regret having not met her earlier. Are you content now, Mary?’ He mimics Molly’s tune.

‘Ha, ha, ha, you little sprite, how funny you are! I love you, little boy. By the way, Molly, where did you get such a baby?’ Mary bursts out laughing. The climate becomes animated and harmonious.

‘Let’s take seats. We have another girl here later. She said she would be ten minutes late. Now we order the dishes. Molly, you first, please, you’re a frequenter here.’

‘欢迎两位光临指导，’玛丽热情地抱住茉莉。接着，向杰克伸出手。‘把你的男朋友介绍一下，茉莉？怎么称呼？’她毫不掩饰对杰克的好奇心。显然，她把他当作小白脸儿啦。

‘哈哈哈，你搞错啦，玛丽。我来介绍吧。这是杰克，我的朋友。杰克，这位是玛丽，我的前同学兼密友。现在，你满意了吧，玛丽？’茉莉极力表明她的清白。

‘啊！太对不住啦，杰克。我刚才是开玩笑哦。请多多包涵。大学时，我经常恶搞她，是不是，茉莉？’玛丽来了个就坡下驴。

‘没关系，我不介意，玛丽。正相反，我知道你们是亲密无缝的好姐妹。其实，我才认识茉莉一星期。可是，我却感到相见恨晚呢。你满意了吧，玛丽？’他模仿茉莉的腔调说。

‘哈哈哈，调皮鬼。很会搞笑嘛，我喜欢。茉莉，这个宝贝儿是从哪儿淘来的？’玛丽忍俊不禁。气氛一下子变得活泼而亲切。‘咱们坐吧。还有个女孩子过一会儿才能到。她说要迟到十分钟。咱们先点菜。茉莉，你来，这地方你很熟嘛。’

Molly doesn’t decline and takes the menu.

‘This city is famous for its sea-food. I suggest we eat only sea-food and vegetables, do you agree, Mary?’

‘Yes, of course, I like the idea.’

Molly orders pepper salt fresh squids, fish heads with minced chili, scallops with garlic sauce, steamed geoducks, ginger and scallion crabs, boiled shrimps, sautéed sweet broad peas and oyster oil lettuce.

茉莉也不推辞，拿起菜谱：

‘本地的海鲜很有名，咱们来个海鲜宴，好不好，玛丽？’

‘好啊，正合我意。’

茉莉点了椒盐鲜鱿，剁椒鱼头，蒜蓉扇贝，清蒸象拔蚌，姜葱花蟹，白灼基围虾，清炒荷兰豆和蚝油生菜。
