In the modern and competitive society, everyone is forced to go ahead, especially the new generation. Children, at the age of eight, have to go to school. Several years later, if the students can pass the examination and receive college certificates，they can go on studying and will have new life which are very different from their former ones. It is known to all that colleges are institutions that teach a wide variety of subjects at advanced levels. Most students attend colleges mainly to acquire the knowledge needed for their chosen profession. I believe that as college students, we should try to broaden our knowledge. Knowledge can be acquired from many sources, for instance, from books and teachers. Now, I will list four points to show you that how I acquire knowledge in my daily life.
1. Reading
Almost every college has a beautiful library. The library is the paradise for reading. There’re huge amounts of books in the library. I can say that the library is my second “home”, because I like reading very much. By reading books, I can learn about things that I have no opportunity to experience in my daily life. Besides, I can study all the places in the world from books and learn from people I will never meet in my lifetime. I can also develop my analytical skills and learn how to view and interpret the world around us in different ways. Furthermore, I can learn from the past and won’t repeat the mistakes of others and can build on their achievements.
2. Take part in activities
It is said that one learns best by doing. And I believe that’s true, no matter one is successful or not. I am a freshman in my college. So everything for me is new. Last semester, I was interested in all activities. I filled a lot of applications in order to be a member of our school’s clubs. But things, as the people say, are not always so easy. Even I spent a lot of time preparing well, I still failed to pass the interview because of lack of confidence. I think making mistakes is the best way to learn. If one wants to make new advances, it’s necessary to act. Although I fail, I regard this is a valuable experience. It tells me that sometimes, self confidences are more important than other things.
3. Part time jobs
Nowadays, it becomes more and more popular for students to have part-time jobs. Some of them work part time for economic reasons. They take part-time jobs to cover the expense for their study and daily life and to lessen the financial burden for their families. While other students just aim at getting some social and piratical experience, so do I. I work part time only aim at obtaining some useful knowledge which we can’ get from textbooks. Now I am a sales girl in AVON’s company. The reason why I am willing to sale AVON’s products is that I want to learn some make-up skills and know more about how to do business. To be honest, take a part time job is not an easy thing. It requires time, energy and so on. If you really want to do a part job, you must be sure you can coordinate your time for study or job. Otherwise, you just waste of your study time.
4. Do some sports
We can see a number of people do exercise in the open air no matter in winter or summer. It proves that sports have played an important role in our daily life. Few years ago, the government established a rule that students must do sports at least one hour per day. It indicates the government pays highly attention to our college students’ health. On the surface, sports have nothing to do with our study. Actually, sports have a great benefit to improve study efficiency. It can keep our brain clear. When I am under great pressure and can’t concentrate in class, I will do some sports to relax. Only in this way, can I recover very soon. That’s the key I seldom suffer from mental problems.
Above all, it’s my own experience of learning in my daily life. In my opinion, a good learner should not only get knowledge from textbook, but also learn some other things from his daily life. Because there’s thousands of information in our daily life, we can get more useful knowledge from it. To be a good learner, we should regard our daily life as the other textbooks and “read” it frequently. Try to find out the beauty of our life and things that are good for our future. I hope my experience can provide some guidance and help for those who are confused in learning. Finally, I want to present my best wishes to all the learners.
