Campus through My Eyes

925 views. 2010-8-20 23:58 |

Hi,guys. I've not been here for a long long time because of my busy work. Thank gods everything is ok to me recently! Today, I want to talk something about the campus life. Reply me if you have any different ideas.

Nowadays, many students always come into raptures at the mere mention of the life of college or university. However, there is a general discussion these days over campus life in many colleges and institutes. One of the questions under debate is what university is. Before giving my opinion, I think it is important to look at the arguments with a serious attitude.

As for me, university is a small society though it is less complex. Let’s look at the etyma of “university”——“universe”. That means university can teach us all the things of the entire universe: your specialty, your interpersonal skills, and many other things. As our teacherJean said, “What is university? University is an immense and free library.” That’s to say, you can learn whatever you like in the university. And obviously, no one can deny the fact that education is the most important aspect of a university.

A large number of people tend to live under the illusion that they can only gain knowledge by schooling. Obviously, they seem to fail to take into account the basic fact that at most of the time people are out of classes. It is generally accepted that no college or university can educate its students by the time they graduate. Therefore, it must be noted that learning must be done by a person himself. Not being alike many other universities however, students in our school are more clinging to instructors. Instructors have to emphasize their students what they should do next and what their aim is again and again. Lacking the independence of learning, students may be put in a less favorable position in the future job market.

What’s more, the business of the college is not only to train you, but to put you in touch with what the best human minds have thought. Allow me to put our department for illustration. That well digest culture, history and philosophy completely together is our department’s aim. As far as I am concerned, this means we students should be in touch with more classic books, which have associations with history and philosophy, in order to make us become a more civilized and educated student. If you have no time for Shakespeare, for a basic look at philosophy, for the continuity of the fine art, for that lesson of man’s development we call history——then you have no business being in college. A university has no existence and no real purpose except as it succeeds in putting you in touch, both as specialists and as humans, with those human minds your human mind needs to include.

From what has been discuss above, I may safely draw the conclusion in my own words that, a campus is whatever we say by harping on the same string or by some other ways, but it is without errors saying that a campus is a epitome of the society. And pure as it is in a campus, you can learn whatever the society will teach you except the conflict of interest before you are exposed to the society.

Yes, I quite agree with you here. Besides, I think students' own responsibility to study cannot be neglected. Nowadays, many students in college are just fooling around without paying any attention to study the whole 4 years. They themselves do not care much about their own development, and thus, more and more graduates fail to survival in this competitive age.

College life is a defining period in one's life. You are not obliged to earn money, support a family or even engage in social activities, so you can concentrate on mastering at least one skill, or laying the foundation for a career, the time of which we seldom have after graduation. Fooling around or doing monkey business is no good.

A wonderful and powerful article! University is much more free than schools, so it's an opportunity of self-discipline, to discipline ourselves arrange schedule instead of being looked over by teachers or parents, to discipline ourselves concentrate on profound knowledge rather thatn fooling around. Thus when entering the big society, we can become a man of self-discipline and independent mind.

I can't agree with you any more. We are free in the university and do whatever we like. But the question is not all that the students know what should do and how to make full use of their time. So a lot of people often feel failure after graduating.
