My unforgettable experience in Crazy English

1001 views. 2010-6-25 23:56 |Individual Classification:Golden Times|

It is said that if you make a wish when you see a meteor in the sky your wish will come true. Long long ago I made up my mind to become a teacher, one part of the reason for it was that I thought teacher was such a lofty cause that I admired it a lot; the other part was that I just thought my primary teacher was such a kind lady that I liked her very much. All in all, I haven't seen a real meteor shoot across the sky, but being a teacher already became my first and earliest dream since my childhood.
When I heard that Crazy English was recruiting members for its Summer Training Camp, I was suddenly enlightened by that old and vague dream. Yes, my "chocolate"  came into my life! Then in summer of 2009, I became a teaching assistant in Southwest District Intensive Training Camp of LiYang Crazy English.
Everything in the camp was completely new and different to me; I had to learn to adapt to the new environment. However, the weather firstly frustrated me. It was right in July, the hottest season in Chongqing. Before my eyes, all I could see was the burning sunshine filled with viour and energy. The trees and grass hung their heads in diamay, which made me stay in low spirits. I was about to beat a retreat before I began my work. To my surprise, the experienced assistants didn't feel any uneasiness but just look calm. One of them told me," You need thank the hot weather because you can temper yourself in such a hard struggle." Then she smiled mysteriously," That's just a beginning. You will have many things to enjoy." "Enjoy? That's so strange." I said to myself.
The day before the students came, we were assigned to decorate the classroom that each of us would be in charge  of. Fangfang, Dandan and I were in the same team. The happiest thing was that we could do whatever we wanted to decorate our becoming home. We cleaned the classroom first and then shaped the desks like a semi-circle; we pasted many English cards on the wall, the desks and the windows; we even used the rest cards to make a big smile on the back wall. Done this, we were all exhausted, but we were all satisfied to view the home elaboratedly decorated by ourselves, even forgot the burning hot weather and our wet clothes.
The following days we welcomed our students and began our real camp life. We got up at 6:30 and gathered on the playground, playing yoga to the soft music and reading English to the rising sun. At 8:30, we began class for a whole day after having our nutritional breakfast. We teaching assistants must accompany the students and take care of their study. In the evening, when the students slept in their dormitories we had to prepare lessons until midnight. I felt very tired when a day's work had been finished, but once again I was full of energy when I saw my students smiling at me. That was a feeling beyond description, maybe I could name it cardiac stimulant or something else, but whatever it might be, I felt a sense of accomplishment and success.
The most interesting thing in the camp was the competition of eating watermelon. All of the students gathered around the contestants and shouted their support. Unfortunately, I was also compelled to be the contestant because the girls in my class all placed their hope on me! "Ready! Set! Go!" As Fangfang's word was spoken out, the entire class burst out shouting. "Come on! Garfield!" Their voice shaked my ears but what I remembered on my mind was eating! A piece of watermelon was eaten up , then another! Oh my god! No other time than now should I imagine my mouth to be bigger! Time was flying, and Victor over there had finished the most of his watermelons, so Tom had. I concentrated on my mind to grab my share like a mad invador! One last piece! I directed all my strength to my mouth and wiped out it! "Done!" All of my supporters shouted out. Yes! I got the first prize! When I turned back and found the rest poor little tigers were still fighting with their meals. Fangfang held the passion in her cheek and interviewed me,"Garfield, you're number one. Do you have something to say?" I gave a loud belch and said," Well, I think I will never have another piece of watermelon." As might have been expected, the whole class burst into laughters.
I have to admit that it is really an unforgettable experience in my life, because I 've never been such crazy! I still remember when the parting day came, one of my students whispered to me,"Garfield, you didn't know how much we admired you! You defeated all boys."
For nearly a whole year, I still remember the first and the most important turning point of my life. I miss my students. I miss their lovely and naive faces and their clean and honest heart. On one hand, I taught them how to learn English; but on the other hand, it was them, my students, that taught me how to keep a pure heart in such a complex society. Recently, I feel clearly more and more that if you want to get to the top of a mountain, just sitting at the foot thinking about it will not bring one there. It is by making the effort of climbing up the mountain, step by step, that eventually the summit is reached.
Why? Because you live only for once.
