Recently, A Massachusetts school district has had in pipeline giving students above 5th grade condoms without their parents’ agreement. The policy has actually encountered a something of firestorm on the matter of sex education. People is kind of worried that it might have just more opposite effect, promoting the sex behavior rather than protecting children from irresponsible act. They also doubts if it’s necessary, if it has gone too far, for those children must be too young to know enough to figure out what a condom is for. While people who embrace it fight these critics with the “Never-too-young-for-sex-education” theory. What effect on earth can it have, a stimulation or protection?
I myself did the survey on this matter posted right beside the article, clicking the option for agreement. Standing with the theory, I do think the sex education should be more radiative. It’s not difficult to find that the average age of first sexual intercourse has been decreasing in recent years. Thanks to the development of media, sex is everywhere, and children have far more access to sex-related information on television, in lyrics of music, especially on the internet. It just provides limitless source. Children simply can not avoid to be influenced. So it turns out children tend to be more precocious than ever. Most of them have more sex knowledge than you think they do. And the environment is something which couldn’t be changed much, but what we can change is the children’s attitude towards sex. Giving their condom is not to encourage them to do this, but to let them know the importance of responsible behavior when it comes to sexual activity. Say, we promote the life-saving methods but we don’t mean to stimulate suicides. It’s all about education. And to me, there should be no divergent ideas that children will benefit from the condom-distribution policy both physically and mentally.
In the time like this, there is no shame to talk about sex, if we look at it with a positive and right attitude. And when coming to be honest with the children about the safe sex, the fuss seems to overstate the whole things, as long as it really focuses on the education.
