During my stay in Yangzhou last week, I went on a trip to Slender West Lake. It is a key national scenic spot. The lake with garden was formed in the Qing Dynasty, which combined both the grandeur of northern gardening and the beauty of southern gardening., A poet in Qing Dynasty Compared it with the West Lake in Hangzhou, and named it Slender West Lake to describe its elegance and delicacy.
There are so many poetic names for different spots around the lake, such as Rainbow Bridge, Long Dike Spring Willow, White Pagoda, Four Bridges Mist & Rain, Moon Terrace, Little Golden Hill, Fishing Terrace, Five Pavilion Bridge, Xi Chun Terrace, Twenty-four Bridge, etc. These poetic names come from famous politicians, writers, poets, artists of Yangzhou in history. Therefore tourists can enjoy both natural scenery and cultural connotation.
It is said the best season to visit here is around March and April, so it is a little pitiful that I have to miss all the wonderful scenes appearing only in spring. However, the unique beauty of south still impressed me a lot. I walked along the bank, over the bridges, and into the forest; I visited the pavilions, terraces, and museums; I rested at rocks, under the willows, and beside the river. The rain came down when the sun still shone, which added more fun and romance to my trip. It was so enjoyable to travel in the spot with an umbrella in my hand. Since I love photography, I took a lot of pictures to capture the beauty and wonders around me, which would help me to remember this special place and reserve all the feelings and inspirations.
An interesting fact I found there was that people in Yangzhou were so addicted to copying the names of famous places of interest in other parts of China. I like things to be different and special. This practice reminds tourists of their wonderful impressions to other places, which may deepen the bonds with tourists but become less creative and innovative at the same time.
Because the schedule of summer camp was so busy, I had only several hours to enjoy the real beauty in Yangzhou. Luckily, the Slender West Lake was a right choice. I will miss the tenderness, tranquility and beauty there.
Given another chance, I would like to go there in spring. A local friend suggested me reading while sitting in the spring scenery, which is definitely attractive to me. Actually, any interaction with natural is good for our mood and life. I’d better imagine myself staying in Yangzhou when I visit any park to easily enjoy myself to the fullest .
