The Attitude Towards Learning Foreign Language

781 views. 2010-1-22 14:36 |

I was lazy in writing these days, partly because of busy work, partly because of the tight schedule on my master final paper. For me, time lapsed in the daily routineworkingstudying, doing house work and other trivial things. But I think I should keep on writing and form a good habit through never finding an excuse to give up.

Yesterday, I registered in a Japanese blog net, planning to practice my Japanese writing. To my surprise, most of the members there are using Chinese as writing language, which I think is totally meaningless because there are many ways, for example, using QQ space or MSN space, to express ideas in Chinese. Japanese blog netjust as English Blog net, should be a flatform for people to communicate in foreign language, but obviously, some members there just show indifference to the precious recourse and good chance. It is a pity!

Another thing I am thinking about is the attitude towards learning foreign languages. Now many people are high on struggling for all kinds of certificates, such as Senior Oral-translate License, CET8, GRETOFEL and etc. I agree that those certificates are indeed important in the present society, but certificates serves only as tickets for good job. There are so many so-called skills in those tests and owning these certificates doesn’t mean that you have the ability in actual combat.  Taking my own experience as an example, I once feel pound because I have past an difficult Japanese test which required large vocabularytwo-way translation and composition., But when I look back half year later, I found that I’ve given back most knowledge to our teacher who imparted both knowledge and skills. The good model essays I have recited many times are just the guests temporary lingered in my memory, they are gone now and the bare truth is that I could hardly write a simple blog. How sad I am!

My personal opinion is that we should not hold too pragmatical attitude in learning foreign languages because learning a language need long time practicing and the goal can’t be achieved simply by short-term training boasted by many training institutions. There are many admirable friends in DioEnglish setting good examples for us: for example, Samaritan uses news translation to improve his (her) English, SmilingAngel improves her English by translating fairy tales and writing philosophical essays; Moli shares her mood and revised diaries with us; and Bluephoebe feasts our eyes with her great comments on some classical and hot movies and TV series. By whatever ways, they become the most productive writers here. I have learned a lot form them.

How time flies and now is the end of January. Hehe, I still have 11 months in 2010 to improve my English.  Hope this year is a fruitful year for me. And also give my best wishes to my Dio friends.

Writing a foreign language needs to think in the language's way first, and thinking in that way requires us to love the language with all heart.
