She taught me a lesson

Last week I went to KTV with friends,for I haven't sung songs at KTV for a year and I 'm a singing addict,I sang as much songs (both Chinese songs and English songs)as I could and received some compliments from my friends,which make me happy.On the way to home,Lily accompanied me ,we just talked about what had happened at KTV,who had a good performance and who did not,duing the conversation,she said to me:
"Your singing are not bad, really, especially singing English songs ,which some gyes can't even have a try."
"really? I 'm flattered.I am just a English lover,I like English as I like English songs."
"but ,you know what? I have some advice for you."
My heart sank on hearing it, advice? Maybe some disapproval will follow,"Go ahead,I'm all ears."
"I suppose you'd better have sung less songs,especially English songs, "Do you mean I might get distinguished from others and be jealoused of if I did so?"
"not exactly,"she continued after a pause,"If you sing only four or five songs and sing them well, giving more chance to others, you may impress others more. If you sang too much, people may get bored even you sung each song well. As far as I'm concerned, do something exactly to the right degree is the art of behaviours, that is to say being modest about one's skill can make you behave in a more harmonious and perfect manner. However, I don't mean you are a Mic queen, holding the microphone from begining to end.and I 'm sure they enjoyed your songs more or less."
Without feel offended, I said: "Oh, Thank you very much for your frank and kind advice. what you said sounds really make sense. Why have I never realized it before? I must have acted a little bold and silly,crazy about singing and forgot to act appropriately, you do teach me a lesson."
"You are welcome.I'm glad you are so open-minded. I haven't make you unhappy or upset , have I? "
