It is raining dogs and cats outside, pouring intense stress on me. Heavy rain is always bringing me uneasiness and unhappiness which could be traced back to 1999. On a summer day of 1999, it rained that solidly that classes were even suspended and I stayed at home with my parents. My mother was extremely worried about the heavy rain because our house situated on a bank of a river which would be severely afflicted by the impending flood. With the rain falling incessantly, the water in the river rising quickly, we failed to sleep that night. My mother kept watch over the river level with an electric torch and an endless fear. Her anxiety increased when some of the farmland fell into the river after suffering a period of continuous erosion. My father was as calm as a cucumber and busy in collecting the water leaking from the top floor. Worried, feared and at a lost, I laid on my bed listening to the sound of rain and the voice of my parents.
The next morning, the river had risen by several meters, yet fortunately not enough to reach our house. Later on, it was reported that several bridges had been destroyed, tens of acres of fields immersed and some pin trees uprooted. The damage of the disaster was incalculable and the life of villagers was greatly afflicted. From that day on, I have developed a great uneasiness about heavy rain.
