Penalize parasitic young adults?

Has the problem of able-bodied young people living with and feeding off of their parents become such a big social problem that the government needs to take particular measures to penalize them?

The answer is right, at least for Jing Tiankui, a sociologist（社会学家） and member of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference(CPPCC).

At this year’s annual CPPCC meeting in Beijing, Jing pointed out that as many as 30 percent of young Chinese adults live on their parents’ extended generosity.

He proposed that the government rescind（废除） social benefits for those young people who refuse to take jobs but instead idle away time at their parents’ home, so as to jolt（震摇） them into action.

Naturally, a drastic proposal like this raised a lot of eyebrows. Supporters pointed to the worrying trend of youth unemployment and laziness.

Thy hope Jing’s porposed measures will raise awareness, rally（重振） government support and send the right message to young people.

Many say punishing the unemployed is not the answer, it may not be their fault that they can’t find jobs in the first place, and the government stepping in with aggressive action might make things even worse.
