You know that I subscribe an English newspaper called 21st century every year. I like reading English newspaper, which gives my study a hand. A good idea comes to me that I would like to recommend you some good articles from English newspaper. Let’s study English together.

Nuclear security

Nearly 60 leaders who attended the Seoul Nuclear Security Summit were to release a communiqué(公报) on Tuesday about their efforts to lock down the global supply of dangerous nuclear material by 2014. The lockdown goal was made on the first nuclear security summit in Washington, US, in 2010. The Seoul summit is intended to provide a half-way report on how well countries are progressing. Nuclear security is gaining importance as it is feared that terrorists might use ”dirty bombs.”

Courtesy pledge

London teenagers will be asked to sign a “courtesy pledge” to promise to behave in a respectable manner when traveling in the capital, according to a plan unveiled by London Mayor Boris Johnson. The pledge states that they will give up their seats to the elderly, pregnant and disabled, refrain(避免) from using offensive or threatening language; and be polite to fellow passengers and staff. Those who refuse, or are caught misbehaving, will have their free travel passes removed.

Red warrant

China has issued a “red warrant” for Sun Feng, the former head of a branch of the Agriculture Bank of China in Jiagyin, Jiangsu province. Sun and his family traveled to Thailand on December 28 last year and disappeared. Sun is believed to have defrauded(诈骗) several relatives and friends of more than 100 million yuan, said the local police. Among interpol’s 184 member countries, a red notice is recognized as in international certificate of temporary detention.

Co-hiring

Beijing traffic authorities are encouraging residents to share taxis to overcome the shortage of cabs during rush hours. Regulations permit co-hiring a taxi when all passengers get in the car at the same place and head in the same direction. Each passenger pays 60 percent of the cost of a trip that is jointly taken. Fuzhou in Fujian province also allows co-hiring taxis, while in Shanghai taxi drivers are strictly forbidden to solicit(恳求) customers to share taxis.
