Three Mice in a Car

阅读 :

Jimmy Mouse said to Winnie Mouse:

“I think we ought to buy a car.”

“Let us buy one,” said Winnie Mouse.

So they did, and a very pretty little car it was, painted all over in lovely bright colors. It had a horn, too!

“Jump in,” said Jimmy Mouse to his wife, “and we'll go for a ride.”

So she jumped in and sat down beside him. And because Baby Mouse cried at being left behind, they took him as well.

As they passed the crossroads a big car dashed past them - so close that Winnie Mouse cried out in alarm: “They are going fast! I thought they would bump into us.”

Jimmy Mouse nodded. It had given him a bit of a fright. “It's those Bunnies!” he said.

“Oh, they're stopping!” said the Baby Mouse.

As they passed them the Bunnies called out: “Good morning. Do you happen to have any spare petrol. We've run out of it.”

“Why, yes,” said Jimmy Mouse, bobbing down and diving under the seat. Here's a spare can we got from out petrol station.“

“Thank you ever so much!” cried the Bunnies. “We'll get the can filled up again and then return it to you.”

“No hurry,” called out Jimmy Mouse, as he started off.

And Winnie Mouse said, “What nice creatures! I like the bunnies after all.”

“Stop! Stop!” cried the Baby Mouse.

  “They're calling after us.”

And so they were. And what the Bunnies said when they caught them up was: “We were wondering if you would join us for a picnic on the common.”

“But we haven't brought anything to eat,” said the Baby Mouse.

“That doesn't matter,” replied the Bunnies. “We've lots, and we'd like to share it with you.”

“Then we will indeed,” cried Winnie Mouse. “Oh, Jimmy. I'm so glad we bought a car!”
