The Mischievous Monkey

阅读 :

Minx was a little pet monkey who was always getting into trouble. She belonged to a little boy called Peter.

“You won't send Minx away, will you, Mummy?” asked Peter. “I'll wait until your birthday next Saturday - and then I'll decide.” One of Peter's birthday presents was lovely big red kite. “I'd like to fly my kite,” said Peter after tea. “Daddy will take you on the common,” said his mother.

So Peter and his father went to the common and soon Peter's kite was flying high in the sky. Then, suddenly, a strong breeze sprang up and blew the kite sideways. “Oh dear!” cried Peter, “the kite will get caught in that tree!”

“Can you climb up and get it?” asked Peter anxiously. “I'm afraid not,” said his father. “It's far too tall for me.” “I know!” said Peter. “Minx will get it for me!”

He took Minx to the tree and pointed upwards. “Go on, Minx! Fetch it!”

Minx went up the tree like lightning and very soon she was down again safely with the kite.

“Well, Peter,” his mother said later, “I think we'll forget all about Minx and her naughty tricks-really, she is very clever!”
