Defeat Of The King Of The Forest

阅读 :

There was a beautiful bird. His name was Tamakaoo. He had colourful wings having red and blue dots on the wings with bright golden designs. He was strong in body but his nature was sweet and he never fought with anybody. He respected elders and was courteous in his behaviour. He was helpful to the youngsters. This was reason that everybody in the forest liked him.

All other male birds of his age had happy families with their wives and children. But whenever he was approached by his parents to get married, he refused to marry. He felt that everybody in the forest had settled and had constructed their own homes. Their only business had concern was to look after their families. None had interest in the well being of the creatures living in the forest. He was of the view that the young of the forest should do something for their happiness.

He wanted to do something for the inhabitants of the forest.

When his parents made shelter in the forest long back, they took some money and land from the king of the forest. The king was very kind. But in return for the favours he extended to his parents, he demanded that the bird that was born in their family with sweet voice, must attend the palace of the king in the morning and evening everyday. Accordingly the sweetest singer in his palace.

When Tamakatoo came to age he was sorry to learn that to of his maternal aunties who were good singers, had been put into prison by the king. He asked his parents that the king should be requested not to do this. His parents said that they were under many obligations to the king. Their small home could be made only with the help of the king. They said they were the servants of the king for since many births.

Tamakatoo did not like all this. He used to visit his aunties from time to time in the king's palace. After every such visit he used to return with a heavy heart. Whenever he listened to his aunties, he felt the pain expressed in their songs. This made him think of a plan to get his aunties released. But he could not reach any conclusion. Thus time went on.

One day Tamakatoo heard a melodious song early in the morning. He was lost in the song and took a flight to see the singer of that song. He was wonderstruck to see the beautiful female bird with golden wings. She was lost in her song. Without any reaction she continued her song. But she was happy to see Tamakatoo. This was indicated by a slight movement of her wings. After sometime, Tamakatoo put his proposal to the beautiful female bird that he wanted to marry her. She accepted the proposal. She liked the strong and handsome Tamakatoo.

Tamakatoo came to his parents and relatives and told them about his choice they listened to the song of his mate and agreed to the marriage. The marriage was arranged. With this happy beginning in the life of Tamakatoo, there was something, which could be called as a misfortune. The king of the forest also heard the song of the bride. He so much liked the song that he declared that the bride should come to his palace for his entertainment, as per the promise of the parents of Tamakatoo after a fortnight. The birds of the forest expressed their unhappiness over the king's decision but the family had to keep the promise. The birds of the forest had not the courage to express their unhappiness over the king's decision.

Tamakatoo's friends also had grievances against the king but were not prepared to oppose him for such an action.

Tamakatoo's wife was very gloomy. Tamakatoo tried to console her. He said that he would find out a way and would anyhow avoid the odd situation. His wife was afraid of her fate but could not disbelieve her husband.

A fortnight was over. The king's solders came and caught hold of Tamakatoo's wife and took her to the palace. When on the way the birds of the forest saw that Tamakatoo was being beaten by the solders of the king as he was trying to rescue his wife. They were all sympathetic to Tamakatoo. They were annoyed at the cruelty of the king and thought that the duty of the king was to save his people and not to oppress them. He also thought that the king was creating terror among the people. They were all afraid of him.

Tamakatoo while weeping and expressing his resentment went up to the palace and ultimately had to return alone. He was revengeful and decided to take revenge against the king. He thought again and again doubting whether he would be able to take revenge against the mighty king alone? It was not possible to fight the king alone so he decided to organize all the birds and animals including the nature of the forest and to take their help. He prepared a plan to do this and save his wife and the people from the terror of the king.

He took a tiny cart and yoked two frogs to the cart. He took blessings of his parents and left to fight the king. First of all he appealed to all the birds of the forest that were victims of the terror of the king. He requested them to help him. One by one the birds started joining him. He made a campaign door to door. His slogan was:

“I have made a tiny cart,Frog carry on,The king has snatched my wife,I am ready to take revenge, will you come with me and bring me success.”

From everybody he got full support and they joined him. Tamakatoo now was getting success in his campaign and he had with him number of birds-crows, hens and other members of he forest, snakes, cats, dogs foxes, elephants, horses and huge army of birds, animals and other creatures.

The whole atmosphere in the forest was disturbed. There was lot of dust. When the wind saw this, she asked Tamakatoo what for he was taking a big army. Tamakatoo explained to the wind the whole story. The wind did not like the king's behaviour of putting the bride into prison by force. The wind thought that such an action of the king would spoil the whole peace of the forest. So the wind took the decision to help Tamakatoo and joined the army to take revenge on the king. Further the river saw this army. The river asked Tamakatoo the reason for collecting all the people of the forest. Tamakatoo told the story and appealed to the river to favor him. The river joined the caravan, and then fire and other forces of nature one by one came to help Tamakatoo in the fight.

When the king came to know that a small bird like Tamakatoo was coming to fight with him, he sent his solders to arrest Tamakatoo. He collecting his army and came to fight with Tamakatoo but he was surprised to see the big army of Tamakatoo. He tried to roar and threatened the army but it was all in vain. He began to lose ground before the mighty army of Tamakatoo, and ran from the battlefield, but his way was interrupted by the fire. The king surrendered. Tamakatoo now was victorious. His bride and aunties were set free. There was uproar of laughter and atmosphere of happiness in the whole jungle, on this occasion when the people of forest could get relief from the tyranny of the cruel king.
